I am just finishing my first week of my first real job. And this is a real job. I am working for a company called Franklin American Mortgage Company and I really like it so far. I can not figure out why I got hired though.....It requires five weeks of training. I am the only girl in my training group. I am the only person that I have talked to that does not have some kind of a business or a finance background. I keep telling everyone that I think they looked at my resume wrong. Adam keeps saying that me getting this job this fast makes him suspicious of how hard it really is to get a job right now :)
Getting this job is just one more point on my list of many that there is someone watching over me.
However, the job search for me was not very glamorous. I probably applied to 200+ jobs, and only heard back from jobs that were not very legit.
One of them was advertised as a Marketing job. I applied for it, it sounded good in the job description. I get a phone call from them inviting me to come in for an initial interview. I go to the interview and it went well. I left fully expecting to get a phone call for a second interview for a job in the marketing industry. Sure enough, I get a call from them saying that they are very interested and that they would love for me to come back in for a follow up interview. They tell me that the interview will be two hours and that I will be going out in the "field" with one of their marketing representatives. Still having no real idea of what I will actually be doing. So I go to the interview and they take me out in the field. It is me, another girl that is interviewing and two dudes that clearly do not have a lot of college education, work experience, or experience speaking English. He takes us into a McDonalds and proceeds to tell us what a wonderful job this is and how much money we are going to be able to make. At this point I still have no idea what I am actually going to be doing. Then he finally pulls out a stack of Papa Johns coupons and explains that this marketing job is going door to door selling Papa Johns coupons......(in my head, i was thinking: Why did they call me back for a second interview? Do I really look like the type of person that would be okay with selling papa johns coupons? Did you really think I would do that in the initial interview?) Anyway, he takes us to watch his papa johns coupon selling skills. For about 45minutes We went from business to business interrupting peoples days trying to get them to buy these coupons. It was the most humiliating thing that I have done in a long time. After that time period of complete agony we finally went back to the McDonalds that we started at. He asked us a few more questions while I am just thinking in my head "I would have to be really hungry and I mean really hungry to care about money enough to sell papa johns coupons door to door". At the very end of the interview and says to me dead seriously like this is a hard job, "Katie, do you think this is a job you could do?" Me: "Umm.....Yes" Him: "Is this is a job you want to do?" Me: with great amounts of hesitation in my voice and I am sure all over my face, "Ummmmmmmm.........yeeeenoeeees".
Sad to report I didn't not get offered a job with the coupon selling business... I guess they didn't think I was cut out for the job, maybe next year.
I think Texas is the place to find jobs right now!! Haha I still think that's hilarious you went door to door. I wonder what I would have done in that situation.
ReplyDeleteKatie, you crack me up! I felt like I was right there with you as I read this. I'm so glad you found a good job! Someone is watching out for you, and many people are praying for you! Love and miss you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you could find a bookstore to hold a poster in front of. You're good at that. I would have bought coupons from you.
